Hacked
Hacked, is a fashion design piece discussing the relationship between subcultures and the fashion design industry.
Under such topic, subcultures cyberpunk, and wasteland are styles that have their own characteristics, although the theme is similar, their focuses are different.
Wasteland and Cyberpunk are now very popular topics in different design fields, including Fashion Design and illustration. However, in the very first place, they have their own definitions. From the movie Blade Runner directed by Ridley Scott in 1982 and George Miller’s Mad Max in 1979 to nowadays, many illustrators and fashion designers started to put elements into their artworks, visual elements develop from time to time.
The fictional movie Blade Runner made the fashion designer Michael Kaplan famous because of his costume designs for the movie characters; which also inspired later designers such as Raf Simons for his Raf Simons 2018 spring and summer series and Erroloson Hugh’s Acronym.
The movie Mad Max directed by Geoge Miller chose to pick Punk culture as the visual effects to catch the audience's eye, which established the basics of wasteland's visual elements, and to make the topic flourish. Therefore, when audiences who know Wasteland see designs such as Jeremy Scott’s Spring 2020 fashion runway, they can link fast with the Wasteland.
"High tech, low life" is the primary concept of Cyberpunk culture. Although the characters are full of knowledge of electronic products, their clothes are relatively simple and performance-oriented. Acronym's founder Errolson Hugh inspired me. I choose to use High-tech fabric as the jacket's outer lining, for waterproof purposes; meanwhile silk for the inner lining with illustrations on it. The jacket is designed to be detachable, not only helps forming different shapes, but also designed to be wear in multiple seasons.
